Celestial Light a commissioned work in Indigo Shibori on Washi and a touch of 24k gold leaf. 42″ x 64″ ,2019
I was inspired by the light of stain glass windows as I walk around St Pauls Cathedral . On a long country walk on the west coast of Wales I noticed a small medieval church with a tiny clear stain glass window amongst its thick stone walls. I walk in a city and countryside and always notice architecture windows and the light that reflects and directs longer studies I make sketches or photograph. I went to the British Museum and found myself drawn to the Egyptian display and notice a large stone tablet with carving of two people having breakfast , hieroglyphs surround the carvings as I take a photo for reference I notice the reflection of the Norman Fosters class celling . I also am reminded that the Egyptians were the first to write the recipe for making indigo. This recipe lives at the British Museum.
The light reflecting along the river that is always moving and changing . When its dark and the Moon and stars lead me to another deeper experience , of indigo.
Thrilled to see the work installed in the collectors home.
