Apple bark dye, handmade Earth pigment Burnt umber on Japanese Paper
I am a native Californian living half way across the world. I am an outsider, watching image after image of California burning, inside my heart ache. I then see only embers fragments of a home
are left, like a fossil suspended in amber a climate change disaster before our eyes.
The apple tree in my garden provided the colour orange, A labour intensive process, shaving bark, soaking the vat for a week then the folded Japanese paper is submerge for another week. Meanwhile the fires are still burning, Then I used handmade Earth pigments burnt umber, burnt sienna, raw umber, yellow ochre.
Today as I type this the fires are raging in my hometown of Santa Rosa.
